Channel Editor

Channel Editor makes it possible to edit channels of process colors ( CMYK or ECG (n-CLR) like CMYKOVG or similar.

If one or more press units are inactive (not used)  The Operator can switch them off in the control strip (select DUD). It is also possible to assign different ink -  swap inks — e.g. replace regular Cyan with Magenta or switch Magenta with Rubin Red.

When it makes sense to use

This tool is designed to support scenarios when printing with extended color gamut inks (ECG: printing CMYK+OGV or combination) but current job doesn't require all seven inks, instead of creating a six channel color bar, you can continue to use the 7 channel bar, and with ChromaChecker Channel editor, the operator can configure which inks are being used on press for this job.  For example normal work is printed using CMYKOGB but due to Color Server calculation, Orange Channel is not involved and can be eliminated to optimize production costs. Files are processed through conversion to CMYKGB and rendered on press using CMYKOGB color bar, and operator can Channel Edit the orange channel and make it a DUD, effectively turning the color bar into a 6 color bar. This eliminates a lot of time and effort in managing different color bars for different work.

Another scenario is when printing with a few channels only (what happens in the packaging industry)  - From entire CMYK only K is used + couple Spot colors - we can use the same control strip with placeholders for spot colors - that reduces number of unique control strips to manage.

NOTE:

Some patches ( e.g. G7 patches) will not work properly anymore (can't create G7 Curves without CMYK data) if any CMYK channels are turned off or swapped between.
